Core research question
How can increasingly autonomous systems perform meaningful work while remaining inside externally governed and independently verifiable boundaries?
We investigate how autonomous software and AI systems can act, adapt and recover while remaining inside explicit authority, policy and verification boundaries.
Our work focuses on practical mechanisms for governing increasingly capable software systems: explicit authority, scoped execution, machine-checkable evidence, independent verification and bounded recovery.
AI agents and autonomous software can increasingly plan, coordinate and act across real systems. Capability alone, however, is not authority.
CAUSVEN Research investigates architectures in which consequential actions remain bound to explicit identity, scope, policy and execution conditions before they are allowed to proceed.
The objective is not to assume that an autonomous system is correct. The objective is to make important execution boundaries observable, testable and, where practical, machine-verifiable.
How can increasingly autonomous systems perform meaningful work while remaining inside externally governed and independently verifiable boundaries?
A trustworthy system must be able to stop, reject, recover or escalate without silently expanding its own authority.
Research maturity describes the evidence state of a research program. Research maturity does not automatically represent commercial product maturity.
Machine-verifiable boundaries for autonomous software and AI systems, including authority-bound execution, evidence continuity, verification and bounded recovery.
Identity, authority, delegation, scoped access, approvals and governed execution for agent systems.
Runtime verification, controlled recovery, bounded remediation and recertification for increasingly autonomous operational systems.
Governed infrastructure for developing, evaluating, deploying and operating AI/LLM systems across changing models, providers and technical environments.
Autonomy should not require blind trust. Selected critical execution properties can be subjected to increasingly strong forms of machine-checkable assurance.
Define the requested outcome and the authority under which work may occur.
Construct a bounded plan without granting the planner additional authority.
Evaluate identity, scope, policy, resources, constraints and evidence before consequential execution.
Perform only the action admitted by the governed execution boundary.
Capture actual execution state, results and relevant evidence.
Determine whether intended postconditions and assurance requirements were satisfied; otherwise reject, escalate or enter bounded recovery.
Model output may propose a plan, action, explanation or recovery option. It does not become execution authority merely because the model produced it.
These levels describe assurance approaches, not a claim that every CAUSVEN system currently operates at every level.
Record what was requested, attempted and observed. Logging provides traceability, not proof of authority or correctness.
Evaluate explicit identity, authority, scope, capability, resource, environment, policy, approval and execution-state requirements.
Bind selected security-relevant execution context to exact identities, fingerprints, manifests, receipts and evidence.
Future research into SMT/SAT solving, state-machine exploration and model checking for selected critical properties.
Future selective use of formal methods for narrow critical invariants. This is not a claim of formal proof of all AI behavior.
Consequential execution should occur under an identifiable authority boundary.
Missing, stale or contradictory authority should stop execution rather than silently widen permission.
Agents receive only the capabilities, resources and environment access required for bounded work.
Important outcomes should be supported by observable evidence rather than process-success claims alone.
Execution and verification should remain separable when the consequence justifies an independent control boundary.
Recovery remains explicitly limited and must not become an exception path for unlimited execution.
Product systems provide practical environments for evaluating governance and assurance concepts while product capability remains independently governed by product evidence.
SAFEDEV's verified execution-governance foundation provides practical context for research into autonomous coordination, policy compilation and execution assurance. Kernel-enforced sandboxing and KEA3 work are ongoing development and are not certified SAFEDEV production capabilities.
Research directions are not automatically current SAFEDEV production capabilities.
Explore SAFEDEV →AgentGate provides a practical product context for research and engineering in agent identity, authority, scoped access, approvals, resource binding and governed execution.
AgentGate remains a standalone self-hosted product. Experimental Research components are not AgentGate runtime dependencies.
Explore AgentGate →Experimental work is not presented as production capability merely because an implementation exists.
Problem framing, architecture exploration or hypothesis development.
A working experimental implementation exists, but it is not a supported production capability.
Defined behavior has passed a stated evaluation boundary.
Research is exercised against real or production-like engineering systems under a stated scope.
A defined capability has passed a stated internal CAUSVEN verification and evidence boundary.
A supported product capability exists under the corresponding product release, verification and operational boundary.
As the research program matures, CAUSVEN intends to publish selected technical material where publication is useful, reproducible and compatible with security, confidentiality and intellectual-property boundaries.
No publication count, series number, citation count or external affiliation is presented until it actually exists.
Research notes, technical reports, architecture research, evaluation reports, threat models, benchmark reports and experimental records.
Security-sensitive, confidential or proprietary details remain subject to review and may be controlled, delayed or redacted.
We welcome conversations with organizations, researchers and technology collaborators working on trustworthy autonomy, AI-agent governance, assurance, AI infrastructure and autonomous software operations.

Academic collaboration and standards or technical work may be structured around defined scope, publication and IP boundaries.
CAUSVEN Research evaluates technical results against defined evidence and maturity boundaries. Funding, infrastructure support or provider usage does not by itself determine technical conclusions, product maturity or endorsement.
Research collaboration may involve proprietary systems, confidential architecture, security-sensitive findings or unpublished technical material. Where appropriate, those discussions can be structured within defined confidentiality, access, intellectual-property and engagement boundaries.
CAUSVEN Trust remains authoritative for confidentiality, responsible disclosure, access principles, IP and operational assurance positioning.
